Bio
Tamara Recker is a native Iowan. She grew up on a family farm in Dubuque County, Iowa. Her primary artistic influences were the beauty and quiet of nature that surrounded her in her youth.
Ms. Recker began
experimenting with
painting later in life. Years
spent as a mother, teacher and a career working with patients at a veterans hospital exposed her to many opportunities of human experiences. After her twenty year career working with veterans she jumped ship from the traditional work force. She started the second phase of her life. Advocacy and bringing art to youth who may not be able to afford art materials/ classes and encouraging others to find their inner artist is her current life passion.
In Ms. Recker’s words, “Everyone is an artist. Art takes on different forms it is inside each of us. Art is whatever one puts their passion into-whether it be art, music, writing, parenting, cooking, gardening, a sport, being a leader, etc-to me there is no set definition of art.”
She prefers not to sign her paintings. She believes the abstract paintings she creates could be interpreted by the viewer in whatever orientation that speaks to them. Not adding a signature allows the viewer to practice their own creativity.
Each painting she creates is truly one of a kind. What appears on the canvas is not premeditated, but a piece that reflects thoughts and feelings of the moment. She is know to avoid lines or predicability and bring colors togethers that have great life and movement. Constraints of time and materials provide the opportunity for what she calls the serendipity of her art.
