Bio
Mustafa Malik, host of the blog 'beyond-freedom.com,' is a journalist, researcher and writer, based in Washington, D.C.
His commentaries and op-eds appeared in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Miami Herald, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other newspapers and journals.
Malik has worked as a full-time reporter, editor and columnist for the Hartford Courant, Washington Times, Glasgow Herald and other newspapers, and as a research fellow for the University of Chicago Middle East Center, German Marshall Fund and American Friends Service Committee.
He writes mostly about the U.S. foreign policy, relations between Muslim societies and the West, Muslim resurgence and Islamic renewal, liberalism, post-materialism and the evolving political institutions in the Middle East. Over the decades his writings have been published in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal and Constitution and many other Western, Middle Eastern and South Asian publications.
Malik's journalistic career was interrupted by a series of diplomatic assignments from the Pakistan government at the United Nation and in a number of European and Middle Eastern countries.
He also served as speechwriter and press secretary for the late Pakistani Prime Minister Nurul Amin.
Malik was born in India and lives in the Washington suburbs.
