Bio
Jack T. Scully is a Vermont businessman and writer with an appreciation for good stories. While he's spent most of his professional career writing marketing materials, proposals and grants, he's never abandoned the creative process. here he extensively contributed editorials, feature stories, and numerous multi-part series.
He is a graduate of St. Michael's College (BA) with a minor in the Humanities. While there, he joined the ROTC program and later served four years in the U.S. Air Force Force. In his final service year, he was chosen to represent the Air Force at a joint services recruitment center in New York City.
He began his first novel in New York after a fire in a high-rise elevator shaft sent flames soaring through the roof and forced a hurried evacuation. "Back then," he said, "I had no notion of originality. A fire trapping people in a skyscrapper sounded timely and interesting. My manuscript was half done when Scortia and Robinson published The Glass Tower, followed soon after by the blockbuster movie, The Towering Inferno. Their succeses kabashed my manuscript and convinced me to draw future stores from inner experiences, not cataclysmic events."
Jack Scully grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, in a Veteran Administration housing project on the banks of the Mianus River. His collection of poems, Mianus Village, describes life there in the years following WW II. His mother was personal assistant to the late historical novelist Anya Seton. One of Scully's earliest memories is listening to her read passages aloud from Seton's works-in-progress; she typed and helped edit six of Seton's bestsellers. As a teenager, Jack proofread Seton drafts. Later he wrote his Masters thesis (University of Vermont) on the author: Fictionalized Biographies, A Study of the Literary Merit of Anya Seton's Historical Novels.
He lives in Colchester, Vermont with his wife, teen-age son, and a justifiably pampered cat near Lake Champlain.
