Bio
I have been helping writers to polish their novels, short stories, memoirs, scholarly articles, research papers, nonfiction books, and business documents since 2007, when I launched myself as an independent editor with Janemac.net and also co-founded a small press, Medusa’s Muse Press, for which I am copy editor. Impelled by a desire to help people express themselves clearly and put their best writing forth, I find working directly with authors to be greatly rewarding, especially as I see their writing improve over time.
I have a strong niche in editing academic papers, with a specialty in working with authors for whom English is not their native language. In this line, I am copy editor for two academic journals based in Korea, the International Review of Public Administration and Korean Social Science Journal.
The Chicago Manual of Style and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association are the two style guides I use most frequently; I am also familiar with AP, MLA, and Turabian styles.
Back in the dawn of time (give or take a few billion years), I earned a Bachelor of Arts in German Language & Literature from University of Auckland, New Zealand, and twenty-five years later went back to school to earn a Master of Arts in Journalism at Northeastern University, Boston. I am a member of the Bay Area Editors’ Forum and the Text and Academic Authors Association.
Online, I can be found at facebook.com/janemac.net, twitter.com/jane_mackay, and linkedin.com/in/janemac. For full information about my editing services, along with a list of edited publications and samples of my work, please visit janemac.net.
