Bio
I was born and raised in a small town in the Midwest. We, like many families in southern Minnesota, lived on a farm where my three older sisters and myself helped my parents bail hay and take care of 300 sheep that we had on our property. Through the eyes of my parents and the lessons they taught us growing up, I learned the true meaning of “work ethic”. I also learned what it meant to be dedicated to ones' work, and taking a sense of pride in each and every project. Although, as a child and then as a teenager, there were many times I was angry at my parents for making us help them with chores or spending a whole weekend cleaning the barn or chopping wood in preparation for winter.
I do have some great memories as well, for instance, like the times I watched my mom help an ewe give birth, then I would help give the lamb a bath and then bottle feed her until the ewe had enough strength to feed her baby herself. I also have fond memories of my sisters and I showing our sheep during the county fair. We were members of the 4-H club (for those not familiar) that’s a horticulture club for kids and teenagers to learn and compete against other “farm” kids.
Today I am a wife and a mother of two beautiful, toddler girls. Often times I reflect back on my childhood and realize that my girls will probably have a very different childhood than I had growing up, however, I do hope I can pass down many of the core values that my parents instilled in me. I know my parents always wanted me to have it easier than it was for them to make ends meet, but I often wonder if there is something to be said about people that work for a living that requires a level of “manual” labor, or to complete a task that is voluntary, not because you “have to” but because you “want” to do it.
I wanted to share a few stories and touch on my past in this bio because I believe it provides insight to the foundation for who I am today. However, what I haven’t shared yet is everything in between, and there is a lot to share, but I do plan to provide those details throughout this blog. In case you are wondering if you can relate to the material in my blog, I will add the following: I am a daughter and a sister. I am mother. I am a wife, who is madly in love, but I had to "lose" love to find the right “love”. I also balance a full-time career while taking part-time classes towards earning my executive MBA. I have a type-A personality, I like to be organized whenever possible, I find myself wanting to take control in my personal and professional life, however, I have learned the busier my schedule, the need to delegate becomes that much more important.
Lastly, I make a checklist for everything. Anything from grocery shopping, packing for business trips or family vacations, organizing excursions for a trip to Disney. I also make lists regarding more meaningful matters such as a list of personal goals I want to achieve, things I want to work on when in a social setting, to ideas of projects to do with my daughters when I only have a limited amount of time to spend with them.
This blog will be an opportunity to share any and every kind of list that applies to a woman’s life.
