Bio
I blew into this world by way of Livingston Montana to a fishy family of four brothers and bootleg fly fishing guide father. The year was 1957, the year the first satellite and the TV series Maverick were launched. Yep, I'm no spring chicken. At a tender age I learned how to drive a stick shift, row a boat, and tie a clinch knot. I clawed may way through college in Idaho where I fell in love with both the Salmon River country and my husband. Over the years we've run a remote Alaskan fly fishing camp, built and operated a wilderness rafting company for 20 years, and now manage a historic off-grid, has-been guest ranch on the Salmon River. Our two kids grew up on the Salmon River, where we all raised each other.
I can't imagine life without a dog, rivers, mountain trails. I'm a seeker of wild steelhead, morels, and shed antlers. I'm not afraid of a night alone in the wilderness but I do fear math problems, public speaking, rivers without fish. I've tried, but failed at - wearing a watch, living in town, Facebook, nailless nail knots. I am a lover of family, friends, good food, good wine and lively conversation. My favorite place is knee deep in a river, or stinking up the wall tent with wet waders and fried onions on the stove.
I’m a blue girl in a the reddest county in one of the reddest states but that's OK, I'm a firm believer in "straddling" cultures. It's home and I love it - in a county the size of Connecticut, 90% public land, bordering the largest wilderness area in the lower 48. Talk about a playground!
I'm 3 hours from the nearest WalMart or Interstate, don't have cell service and get my mail 3 days a week, 2 miles away. We are not sociopathic, luddites or survivalists, it's just how we are and it makes us happy. As the song goes, I can look at the world with a smiling eye, I'm the lucky one....
