Bio
I am a 65 year old retired married man with a very understanding wife. Since sailing round the world in The Clipper Round the World yacht race in 2009/10 I have been seeking other major challenges. In 2011 I decided to cycle from John O'Groats (JOG) to Lands End (LE) in Great Britain. Since my bike and I lived in Essex I thought why not cycle up to John O'Groats and after completing the ride to Lands End why not cycle home. And so a c900 miles JOG to LE became a c2500mile round trip. Cycling alone and unsupported was a great way to see England Scotland and Wales. I met so many kind and interesting people on the way. It was this trip that gave me the idea to cycle further afield and explore other countries. I looked at cycling the Americas and cycling round the world and then thought why not cycle from where I live in Newport Essex England to Melbourne Australia (where my youngest daughter now lived so it would be an ideal goal). In March 2014 with the goal decided I set off cycling the c15,000 miles to Melbourne arriving in March 2015.
In August 2016 I led my next adventure - 3 months canoeing the River Danube 1500 miles (24000km) from Germany to the Black Sea with my brother and a friend.
In June 2017 I cycled a little French Odyssey - a gentle cycle ride to Le Mans and then down to the South of France before returning home to the UK.
In July 2018 I did a three month tour of the Australian outback in a 1998 Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 with an Australian friend I met in Kyrgyzstan (whilst cycling to Australia in 2014)
Now in September 2020 with the Covid 19 virus still active I cycled a 1000km West to East cycle ride across the UK from the western most point in mainland UK (Ardnamurchan Lighthouse) to the Easterm most point (Ness Point - Lowestoft).
