Bio
Welcome, my name is Dave McCathie and I’m the author of Juvenile Sailors.
Just to give you a bit of background I was born in Sydney NSW and I lived at a place called Chullora where I started school. I then attended South Strathfield High where I passed my Higher School Certificate. I lived and worked there for twenty years until I was conscripted into the army, the only lottery I’ve ever won. After I was discharged I moved to Gosford, on the Central Coast, with mum and dad where I met my wife of thirty three years Jann. This is also where I spent ten years in Juvenile Justice working in Detention Centres.
I moved to Brisbane in1994 where I reside still with my wife,
Jann, son Daniel, daughter Rhiannon, border collie-cross Jessie 11 and chestnut mare Miss Tilly 6.
The idea for Juvenile Sailors started in 1995 not long after moving to Brisbane. I sat on the idea for five years until I was recovering from an operation and treatment for bowel cancer and since I had plenty of time I started writing. The book was a combination of the work I did with teenagers, a love of sailing and a penchant for the wars at sea between England, France, Spain and the USA during the 18th century.
I never really saw myself as a writer but there you are and even though I stalled the idea off as being silly it wouldn’t go away until I started putting it down on paper, and that’s another story. So there you have it, Juvenile Sailors.
