Bio
My name is Keri Spencer and I was born and raised in the Binghamton, NY area. I spent a brief amount of time living in North Carolina but eventually moved back to NY to be closer to family.
I graduated from Chenango Valley High School where I focused on Science and Media Communications. I loved earth science and photography the most which is not surprising to me since I LOVE the outdoors. During my senior year of high school, I took my classes in the morning and worked in a day care center in the afternoons. I also took a couple college classes at SUNY Broome and worked for Roberson Center on the weekends. After graduation I went on to SUNY Broome as a part time student where I eventually graduated with a Liberal Arts Associates Degree. During that time, I worked full time, got married and moved to North Carolina where I had my first son. In North Carolina I worked for UPS loading trucks, then for a Temp Agency where I worked in many different offices developing my receptionist and secretarial skills. Eventually I took a permanent job working for Qualex, a subsidiary of Kodak. I started out as the site manager for the One-Hour Photo Labs inside Target Stores. Eventually I moved into an Area Manager position running three locations and then additionally a trainer for new stores being opened.
Several years later I moved back to New York when my father became ill and while I stayed on with Qualex in a part-time position for a while I eventually needed to find a full time job with benefits. Since I was then a single parent I needed something where I could work while my son was in day care. I found a position with Vail-Ballou Press as a Customer Service Representative Assistant. I liked my co-workers and customers, had great pay and good benefits. I worked there for 5 years and during that time met my husband and two step-daughters. When my son began to display some medical and behavioral problems I was forced to leave work and become a stay home mom. When they entered school I joined PTA and became a Room Parent so I could stay involved. It wasn’t long and we had our youngest son so I continued to stay home with him until he was in school full time. I loved every minute of it but I was ready to go back to working. I found a job cleaning houses which allowed me to be flexible in case someone was sick or we had snow days. Then I went to work in the school district in food service. After a year of that I decided I enjoyed office and computer work a great deal more and decided to go back to school.
In the little bit of free time that I do have I enjoy reading books, photography, watching hockey, watching my kids play sports like hockey, baseball and softball. We are very involved in 4-H where I am a teen group co-leader and mentor. My kids raise and show rabbits and are involved with all kinds of 4-H programs including Geo-Spatial and Robotics. As a family we spend our summers camping at the racetrack where my husband races dirt track Street Stock. We all help on his race car and work in the pits during the races and camp together for the weekend enjoying the outdoor time we all love!
I am now a senior at SUNY Broome in the Business Information Technology program and will graduate in May 2016. I have taken classes in management and business communication, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. I have also taken classes in HTML & CSS3 website development, working with Raster images in Adobe Photoshop and working with Vector images in Adobe Illustrator. I am looking forward to graduating and finding my place in the work world full time doing something I truly enjoy!
