Bio
I suppose you could say my early years on this earth were challenging, perhaps even tumultuous. I grew into adulthood with a lot of baggage as a result..almost totally lacking in self-esteem, I drew my identity and whatever comfort I found in life from my work as a Pediatric oncology nurse.
At 46 years old I became disabled with a minor foot ailment called "plantar fascitis"-a painful disorder caused by a combination of being on my feet all day, running, and not wearing appropriate shoes to work.
(A WARNING TO ALL OF YOU VAIN NURSES OUT THERE!! WEAR THE GRANNY SHOES!) Two years and four surgeries later I was completely disabled by a combination of two chronic pain disorders, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and fibromyalgia. I have been unable to work at my profession as a nurse since.
Fast-forwarding 10 years.... I am now a professional blogger and consultant to people with Chronic Pain. My web site "Your Healer Within.com " has just been re-vamped and the programs I now offer focus almost entirely on therapeutic journaling as a means of healing our pain from the inside-the mind and soul-out to our bodies. If you are a person who lives with Chronic Pain, stop by http://yourhealerwithin.com/ or just read my blog. You owe it to yourself to learn a bit more about how and why this approach works.
I am also writing a book about my experiences with the "healing" professions during the years of rehab-ing from my disease. You will find it very enlightening, and-in some cases-hair-raising in what it reveals about Western Medicine's warrior approach to illness and how easily the patient and her needs can be lost in the fray as doctors fight to cure an incurable disease.
This is all true as of today May 2, 2007. I have no idea how it may change by tomorrow.
