Bio
Keiko (pronouced "kay-koh") is a music instrument repair technician born in near Tokyo, Japan and studied music and then migrated to Australia. Keiko worked in a few industries for many years in Japan and Australia, but decided to follow her true passions - music and working with her hands.
Since there is no band instrument repair school in Australia, Keiko moved to master the craft of Band Instrument Repair.
After graduating BIR (Band Instrument Repair) program at Minnesota State College Southeast, Keiko joined Tim's Music in Sacramento, California where she worked with one of the most well-regarded technicians in the field, Scott Mandeville. With Scott's close mentorship, Keiko worked continuously to perfect her craft to learn concepts of repair and efficiently work to best serve players and music communities for five years.
Keiko is member of National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) and she regularly attends NAPBIRT conferences and other industry-related clinics and events. She networks with repair technicians worldwide and is currently serving on the Membership Committee of NAPBIRT. She has presented clinics at the Band Instrument Repair Program at Minnesota State College Southeast in Red Wing (Minnesota, USA) , the Band Instrument Repair Technology Program at Renton Technical College (Washington, USA) . and a NAPBIRT Regional Conference. She has also presented a repair clinic for band directors at a California Music Educators Association conference. She also visits local schools to talk about instrument maintenance and to check the condition of their instruments.
Her mission at Tim’s is to provide the highest standards of instrument repair to support all students, their parents, as well as teachers and musicians with their technical needs. She feels it is her job to reconcile the relationships between the players and their instruments so that the players can have the freedom to express themselves through the instruments.

Hearing about her clients’ stories of their music journey and behind their instruments motivates Keiko to keep learning alongside her clients. Just as Keiko strives to teach clients more about instrument maintenance, they teach her something about the meaningfulness of music, in their personal lives. When our clients come into the store for their kid’s instrument to have it serviced, parents have commented that they, too want to begin or get back to their own musical practice. Keiko is always happy when she motivates newcomers and people with some experience in music to continue playing their instruments.
Lastly, as a professional technician, Keiko wants to emphasis the importance of the maintenance and repair of musical instruments, and she speaks from her own experience. It’s extremely important to have a well-maintained instrument to have a successful music journey. Keiko always sees instruments that are played by students for years that are far from a working condition. It is free to have us check your instruments and to receive an estimate on repairs.
