Hi there! I’m Katie! Proud mama, wife, and Parent Guide with the Georgia Hands & Voices Guide by Your Side Program! Exploring life with the two best partners I could ever imagine - my son, Odin, and husband, Griffin! Our little boy was born with bilateral severe to profound hearing loss. While at first this came as a huge shock and we mourned briefly, we embraced the news and truly believe his hearing loss has been such a gift for our family! Through research and outreach, we are learning so much about a world, culture and language we knew nothing about. Please join us on our bilingual journey as we navigate the world of hearing loss/Deaf gain, early intervention, cochlear implants, American Sign Language, Listening and Spoken English, balancing two languages and Deaf Culture! We are proud to share about our triumphs, joys, hardships, happiness, frustrations and worries. I find writing and being open about my vulnerability as a mom to be unnerving but therapeutic, and my hope is that I am able to help other families through difficult times and to remember to find the humor in day to day life by blogging about our wonderfully challenging experience.
