Bio
I’m 22. I am a super proud recent graduate of Claremont McKenna College, where I was a Government and Classical Studies Dual Major. I loved my school and owe so much to it. I was born and bred in Los Angeles (specifically the San Fernando Valley, yaaaaay The Valley!). I will be on a Fulbright Research Scholarship to Israel this academic year, doing research in/on the city of Akko (It’s in the North, not far from Haifa. Yes, I know you’ve probably never heard of it, but it’s beautiful, important, and better than anything you could picture. I hope this blog will do it justice). I’ll be living in Haifa most of the time, as it’s right across the bay and a short commute away from Akko. Although I have travelled extensively and call more than one place in the world my home, the Middle East has a special place in my heart. I’m currently tossing around ideas of grad school in Middle Eastern Studies and involvement with the State Department in the future. I really like being happy and I laugh quite a bit, and those are qualities that I work hard to protect, as they have helped me get through more than one tough moment whilst traveling abroad. I love books and imagination, and my travels really began through those mediums long before I set off on my own “real” experiences abroad. More than anything, I am so excited. If I went back in time and told a younger Kayla that I would be embarking on a year’s adventure in the Holy Land to do my own research on a topic that I care deeply about, I would be so immensely happy that I was living a life I had always dreamed of. I am fiercely proud of that and of the hard work it has taken to get me to this new beginning, and I’m excited to share the journey with whoever cares to follow it.
