Bio
Kate Sampsell received a B.A. Summa Cum Laude in history from McDaniel College in 1987, a J.D. from the University of Baltimore in 1991, and a Ph.D. with distinction in American History from Georgetown University in 2002. She has held teaching positions in the U.S., Turkey, the UAE, and in Qatar, and in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. She is the author of Lewis Hine as Social Critic (Univ. Press of Mississippi, 2009), the first full-length monograph on photographer Lewis Hine, and has published articles in American Quarterly, History of Photography, and the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. She lives in Washington State.
