Bio
Karina Carmen Velasco was born in Madrid, Spain and is of both Spanish and Cuban heritage. Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she currently resides in the vibrant beach front city of Long Beach, CA. She works as a performance artist and writer. Since the age four, her primary mediums of expression were evident in four paths, which is why her award winning company is called Cuatro Caminos or Four Paths. These include dance, music, written word and acting. In her primary performance art, Flamenco she found not only found dance, music and poetry that resonated intuitively and instinctively from within her, but an art form that includes all four paths of expression. With performances at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico, The Kodak Theater, Hollywood, at The Los Angeles Theater Center, in the nationally acclaimed From The Horses' Mouth in both traditional and contemporary Flamenco, Opera and Classical Theater. She has been commissioned by the Mayor of Los Angeles, the Historic Society of Chula Vista, CA, the U.S. Government, the Consul General of Spain, to name a few. Collaborating with artists from around the World, she has worked in all mediums from stage, to film as well as artist performance pieces. An award winning grant recipient for the continued development of the arts, she has dedicated her work and company to one of her most driving passions the desire to contribute through love and art for the continued development of multicultural understanding and gender equality.
