Bio
La Grange Étrange is a small, bright studio nestled in a forest of white pines at the top of a mountain in eastern Tennessee. Designer and owner Amy DeFigueiredo makes the offering of boutique, integrity-driven pieces designed to preserve vintage elements and offer semi-precious stones carved by independent lapidaries.
"I was raised to be a poet, and I hold that unless you are a really good poet, most of your work is unreadable. Shortly after writing my last self-indulgent poem, I packed up my life in Chicago and moved down alone to south Louisiana to study metalsmithing. I carry a torch for the inexplicable mysteries and irreverence of New Orleans. Everything I produce is made one at a time, using the most basic of tools. It is meant to be primitive and personal. I've traveled the world and it is always the real stuff that I want, not the most refined stuff. The thing a person wears whether or not it is seen continues to fascinate me. Adorning one's self with jewelry is one of the oldest needs of humankind, so I find my work a viable practice that keeps my hands busy, my mind calm, and allows for poetic training to manifest."
"Obsessed with angels or machines, the final wish is love." -Allen Ginsberg
