Bio
I am an interdisciplinary researcher. In July 2015, I accepted a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Nephrology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the research group of Dr. Kerri Cavanaugh. Previously, I served as co-investigator of ACADEMIC, a large child mortality survey, run by the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ).
By education, I am a J.D./Ph.D. alumna of the University of Minnesota's Joint Degree Program in Law, Science, and Technology. In 2008, I joined the retroviral research lab of Dr. Louis M. Mansky, to pursue my Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology & Genetics. I received my Ph.D. in July 2014.The major focus of my NIH-funded dissertation research was to characterize the virological molecular mechanism of a compound the Mansky lab found to possess anti-HIV-1 and anti-HIV-2 activity. In December 2012, I received my J.D. Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, with a Concentration in Health Law and Bioethics. In December 2014, I was admitted to the Minnesota Bar.
I have held many leadership roles in university organizations and in community non-profits. From 2008-2014, I served as a member of the University of Minnesota's Student Health Advisory Committee. In this role, I advised Boynton Health Service on providing more cost effective, inclusive health care to benefit the public health of the entire university community. Additionally, I have been an officer or director for five 501(c)(3) nonprofits that address bisexual issues, GLBTQA issues, child health and HIV/AIDS. In recognition of these and other achievements, the United States Jaycees named me one of Ten Outstanding Young Americans in 2014.
I have strong skills in leadership, strategic planning, board governance, monitoring & evaluation, grantwriting, fundraising, large event planning, social networking, website development, public speaking, donor development, coalition building, stakeholder engagement and diversity education.
