Bio
Lauren started working in vineyards when she was a teenager growing up in Wellington, Ontario. After graduating high school she studied Winemaking & Viticulture for 3 years in Niagara Falls, a booming wine region in Canada boasting over 200 wineries focused on producing premium Chardonnays, Rieslings, Cabernets and Merlots. Since graduating she has worked with half a dozen wineries all over North America, learning the fine art from top winemakers. She also travelled to the southern hemisphere to spend a vintage working down under in New Zealand at Coopers Creek Winery, a very large facility producing 120,000 cases annually. Although it was a great learning experience, she quickly realized that she prefers the small boutique winery life, where there is a strong focus on quality over quantity. She loves the variety found in small wineries where she can be driving the tractor in the vineyard one day, then off to a lavish wine event in the city the next.
Upon returning from New Zealand, Lauren accepted the position of head winemaker at Hillier Creek Estates where she produced award-winning Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir table wines, as well as Vidal Icewine. She also purchased a 10 acre property and planted 5 acres of her owed vines, but after several years of farm life, she soon realized that she wasn't ready to be tied down and sold the property which is now an open estate winery.
Lauren has since moved south across the border to follow her heart. Lauren met her husband while vacationing at her family’s cottage in Ontario, Canada. He swooned her with his Southern Maryland accent and singing talents and she soon followed him to St. Mary’s County. John Zimmerman is the guitarist and sings for the popular Country Rock band Drivin’ Muzzy. They live in Golden Beach with their two dogs.
