Bio
I’m a digital artist who creates abstract work from photographs by shooting into kitchen & bathroom sinks, greasy pans, dusty lightbulbs, boiling pots of water and swimming pools. There are other worlds right in front of us!
My work has been described as very contemporary with luscious colors that remind one of experimental films of the 1960’s. Viewers say the richness of the colors invoke great emotion. I create textural works that are ethereal based. The process is very organic as the work initially is unrecognizable but then becomes visible as I manipulate the saturation, hue, tint, contrast and temperature on my Windows photo processing program. My own creative attachment unfolds as I’m creating the work making the work very autobiographical.
BIO for masses:
Laurie was born in the Bronx, NY., moved ten times in three states and finally settled in Los Angeles where she works with toddlers by day and does art by night. She’s been shooting since she was in third grade when her uncle, who worked at GAF, influenced her when he and his family moved upstairs from Laurie’s family. Laurie worked behind the scenes in L.A. TV news production for 20 years where she won the LA Press award for continuity. In the late 80’s she was a contributor to the LA Reader and shot over 25 stories. She also spent ten years singing in dance/swing bands until her creative focus changed direction back to photography.
