Bio
Lauren Mandel is a Philadelphia-based landscape architect, green roof designer, and author. She works as a Landscape Architect and Integrative Researcher at Andropogon, where she designs landscapes at-grade and on-structure around the country.
Lauren authored "EAT UP | the inside scoop on rooftop agriculture," the first full-length book about rooftop food production, published by New Society Publishers (a carbon-neutral publishing house) in April 2013. She began exploring the viability of rooftop agriculture while in graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Master of Landscape Architecture and wrote the first draft of EAT UP. Her research included interviews with leading rooftop farmers, gardeners, CEOs, chefs, and designers, as well as photo documentation of rooftop farms and gardens throughout North America.
With more than fourteen years of professional, landscape architectural and green-roof-design experience, Lauren enjoys giving talks about green roofs and rooftop agriculture. She also enjoys backpacking and extreme dog walking.
