Bio
Mandy Connell is the latest in a long and distinguished line of talented female musicians to grace the musical scene in Australia. A fine singer and songwriter in her own right, she also has the knack of taking other peoples' songs, and by virtue of her original and unique interpretations making them her own, the mark of a truly gifted performer... Eric Bogle
There's a quiet murmur of recognition, when you mention Mandy's name among folkies. While she isn't famous as such, Connell has been touring Australia and sometimes the UK for 15 years. With reviews and support from Judy Small, Eric Bogle and Paul Brady, this is a performer who has earned her place in our world of storytellers and performers. Alternately funny, Heartfelt, and political, her voice is unique and her style is distinctive, with traditional inflections from a rich history of songwriters and ballad singers. When not fronting five piece band 'Stray Hens', Mandy 's original work will enthrall you.
Touring the UK anually from 2007, Mandy has spent 2011 in Oz writing and developing a team of supporting musicians for an array of sparkling materials to melt even the most hardened, plastic encased modern soul. In Melbourne where talent is not scarce, she is building support from Smith St Hep Cats and the next generation of folky friendly festival funsters and rejoining the ranks of the more traditional musos who've known about the fusion thing for a few generations already.
Joining the rare bird in 2012, and AWOL from other projects are Fingal on Mando, Vocals and skulduggery (Rapskallion), Paul Winter on horns and Roguish charm (Woo Hoo Revue/ horns), Sterling Gill Chambers on fiddle, vocals and elegance (Spooky Men, Bon Scotts), the equanimitous Ian MaCrae on Bass & Frank (The Face) Lees on Drums (Tully & the Thief), The outstanding Lindsey Meldrum on vocals (deceptively angelic). A symbiotic rythm section blindsides you with a meld and a bunch of diverse characters- you’re in for showmanship, fun, arresting vocals, and pretty colours.
