Bio
Born and raised in Mozambique, I hold a PhD in sociology from the University of Alberta, Canada. I have been interested in understanding the history and sociology of human emotions, groups relations and processes, nationalism and violence, questions of development as well as social innovation and social entrepreneurship. Currently, I am a senior lecturer of development studies at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, where I teach a large number of students who are preparing themselves to be agents of change in this vast continent. My publications include "Apartheid Vertigo: The Rise in Discrimination Against Africans in South Africa"; "The Dance Floor: Nightlife, Multiculturalism and Civilizing Process in Canada"; "Quest for Methodological Alternatives"; and "Africa's Fear of Itself: The Ideology of Makwerekwere in South Africa".
