Bio
Uygar Aktan is an independent filmmaker from Istanbul. He studied at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City. Following his studies, he wrote, produced and played the lead in his first feature film MASTER OF THE GAME, a WWII psychological thriller which premiered at SXSW and won the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival, the Grand Jury Award at the Deep Ellum Film Festival and the Best Dramatic Feature at the MidCoast Film Festival. The film was theatrically released in New York City and is now available on DVD.
Aktan then wrote a script in the gangster genre titled THE KING'S SON which won the Best Screenplay Award at the Burbank International Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Aktan is now, however, taking a new approach in his filmmaking. He spent the last ten years tracing three different urban legends back to their sources in reality. But when Aktan turned them into screenplays, he was told by mainstream producers that the subject matters were too "taboo" or "controversial" for them. So Aktan decided to make the films entirely on his own. ISTANBUL STATE OF MIND will be the first part of that trilogy.
ISTANBUL STATE OF MIND is a neo-noir thriller inspired by the real life story of a shell-shocked American war veteran who expatriates to Istanbul to find solace. But his obsession with saving a young girl from sex traffickers pushes him beyond sanity... and back.
