Bio
A photographer and writer, I have been a geologist and also a science teacher in the past. I am a diehard explorer, traveler, and nature lover who lives in Portland, Oregon. I'm curious and excited about most things around me, especially people, natural science and diverse cultures.
My photography tends toward landscape, nature/wildlife, and people (candid and lifestyle). But I'm always exploring new subjects.
This blog will be about the story behind the pictures, but not generally about the photography behind the pictures. There will be talk of photo techniques only on Friday Foto Talk installments. Most times I will feature aspects of the places and people themselves, not like so many blogs just the photography.
I'll be giving some practical advice on visiting the areas I photograph, so it might look a bit like a travel blog at times. But I will also go into the geology for landscapes, into natural history for wildlife and nature, into culture both modern and ancient for travel/people, and so on. I won't be giving you a blow-by-blow on how I took the picture, and never will I be a cheerleader for a certain type of gear, don't worry.
