Bio
Philip Lawton is an experienced investment professional whose interests encompass professional ethics, regulatory developments, risk management (especially operational risk), performance measurement (including the GIPS® standards), and middle office technology.
Best known as the founding head of Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) program at CFA Institute, Mr. Lawton has also worked at major insurance companies and international banks. He earned a doctorate in philosophy in the French-speaking section of the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and an MBA degree with a concentration in finance at Northeastern University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Certified Management Accountant, and a Professional Risk Manager. In 2007 he was awarded the CIPM designation in recognition of his central role in developing the CIPM program worldwide.
A frequent speaker at industry conferences, Mr. Lawton is the author of Middle Office: Managing Financial Institutions in Turbulent Times; the co-author of The Top Ten Operational Risks: A Survival Guide for Investment Management Firms and Hedge Funds (Stone House Consulting, 2010); the co-editor of Investment Performance Measurement: Evaluating and Presenting Results (Wiley, 2009); and the author of numerous scholarly papers and articles.
