Bio
Hi, I'm Beth. I'm 27 and have two young girls who are at the centre of my world.
I have two passions in life, besides my children - craft, particularly sewing, and writing. So, I have decided to put the two together and take time out from my darling daughters to write this brand spanking new blog all about my successes (and fails...) in the exciting world of sewing.
I am by no stretch a professional sewist. I learned to sew in secondary school. I got an A in GCSE D&T Textiles; pretty good, even if I do say so myself. I then chose to take an A Level in the same subject and came away with a B grade. So, I should know my stuff. However, I went on to university (to study something very boring in comparison to learning about pretty fabrics and fancy stitching) and popped out two children... so over the years my poor brain full of helpful hints and tips and techniques has been eaten away and replaced with a mixture of dull business talk and nursery rhymes. So although I have in the past made pretty clothes and home furnishings, I now feel like I have to start all over again. Over the last couple of years, with the help of the wonderful World Wide Web I have been (and still am) refreshing my memory and learning new tips and tricks to bring me back into sewing. I also attend a sewing course at my local Children's Centre, which is giving me the support I need to help me dust off the cobwebs inside my head.
And that is pretty much me. I'm just your normal, average person, looking to create lovely things with pretty patterns and polka dots.
Just a quick word on the name I have chosen for my blog. Having two fairly demanding children, I find it difficult to sew in their presence. I either make silly mistakes, or get frustrated because I can't spread myself around as much as I'd like to; pins and scissors lying around the floor doesn't mix well with toddlers. Therefore I do the majority of my sewing after their bedtime... Hence the name, After Dark Sewing!
I'm hoping this blog will help me document my ideas, tips, techniques, and projects, so that I don't need to go through all this again should disaster strike and I put down my needle and thread. It would be extra special if some bits and pieces help other people too, so if you read any of my posts - thank you!! I hope you learn something.
