Bio
Dr. Janeen Paul started practicing yoga several years ago and discovered the many benefits for the body and the mind. She felt calmer and kinder, slept better at night, and became physically stronger. She attended classes until it gradually became a daily constant in her life. Because yoga had such a powerful impact on her own wellness, she wanted to share its benefits with others through her medical practice.
As an outpatient psychiatrist, Dr. Paul treats people dealing with mild to moderate mental conditions. For 8 years, she was busy doing standard fifteen minute "med checks" to prescribe and adjust medications like antidepressants and mood stabilizers. The medications helped a lot of people improve significantly. However, many of her patients still had residual symptoms, or just didn't feel 100% well. So, she started to research more about yoga and mental health, and discovered a growing body of evidence that yoga, mindfulness and meditation practices can improve the very illnesses she was treating with medications.
Dr. Paul eventually completed a yoga teaching certification and has done more advanced studies in yoga for depression and anxiety as well as Viniyoga. She now offers modern psychiatric care, including psychotherapeutic methods and medications when indicated, as well as interventions based on the teachings of yoga and mindfulness.Dr. Paul is board certified in adult psychiatry. She is also an RYT-200 certified yoga teacher, and a Level 1 LifeForce ® Yoga for Depression practitioner. Dr. Paul practices in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
