Bio
I'm not your mother, and I'm not your keeper. I'm just a gal in her mid-twenties who was once you.
I worked for a non-profit organization that supports the mentally handicapped and developmentally disabled for a little over two years. My job brought me in contact with young women from all walks of life -- from the consumers my agency cared for to the employees I worked with, not to mention the young women in my personal life - best friends' younger sisters, their friends, etc.
I thought MY adolescence and young adulthood were hard, but you guys are in a whole other ball field!
Your mother probably has a plethora of wisdom and advice, as mine did, but let's get real, our mothers are the LAST people we go to for guidance through the trials and tribulations of such things as friendships, love and sex, the jungle-like hierarchy known as high school, and life after graduation.
I want to give validation to your hardships - girls you've been BFFs with since kindergarten suddenly turning on you, navigating the aforementioned-hierarchy of social roles - bullies, potheads, girls who think it's cool to mimic the viciousness of the cliques in films such as Mean Girls - your first real loves and first cruel heartbreaks and aches, and everything in between those first few clumsy years of adolescence to the years you become an actual adult.
This blog is composed of all the things I wish girls knew, and I hope it helps you in some way.
