About Martin L.W. Hall
Dr. Martin Hall of Compass Series is an organizational change expert with particular focus on cultural and values measurement in multinational organizations.
He is a Leadership Mentor, Researcher, Educator (Leadership, Management), writer, technologist, systems thinker. His most recent work has been primarily with Global 2000 clients. Leadership, Cultural shift, and post-merger integration are areas of focus. Key themes that often come up in the work are social network analysis, culture or change management, sustainability, challenges to leadership, and collaboration in creating of high performance teams.
He is interested in how to increase the collaboration and effectiveness of individuals in an increasingly virtual world. He has traveled extensively (North and South America, Europe and Pac Rim, primarily). He also runs a research non-profit, Systems & Values. His education has been in the U.S. and the U.K. most notably his Ph.D. (management, systems thinking, human values) at the Lincoln School of Management (University of Lincolnshire and Humberside), M.S. in Cybernetic Systems at San Jose State University in California, and BA in History at Santa Clara University (also in California).
Previously, Martin was Co-founder and CTO/Strategist of Values Technology. He has also been a consultant for technology, systems and OD. Martin headed MC Systems Consulting, and held positions with IDG Publications, Verity, Frame Technology, Sun Microsystems and Autodesk among others in various consulting capacities. He is the author of over 25 publications in books, journals and magazines. He presents at conferences world-wide.
Personally
His philosophy might be thought of as "distilling the essence of culture and creating meaningful institutions". My background is varied being interested in creating a more effective world and creating meaningful institutions for the people that live in it. I believe that better understanding of values and culture, along with understanding of how the systems in the world affect us are central tools to this mission. He is a technologist, researcher, writer, educator, husband, father, friend, mentor. Hobbies include wine, travel, blogging, writing (other than blogging), food, etc. My family includes my three kids ((boy (Grant), and twin girls (Paige & Rachel)) and three dogs (Brownie, Scruffy and Sakima) You can reach me at: martin@sysval.org.
