Bio
The Cape Town Month of Photography is a dynamic photography Festival which aims to include over 100 bodies of Photographic work in solo and group shows in a biannual calendar. The works showcase in prestigious galleries, museums and city venues within the inner and greater city of Cape Town and online in virtual galleries and archives. MOP6, the 6th edition of the festival is now online for viewing and the next festival to transpire in 2016. Call for submissions of proposals will be open from late 2015.
The Official festival, runs over a month from 1st – 31st October with workshops, talks and masterclasses as well as photography walkabouts and live slideshow evenings, and begins as a lead up with openings and other celebratory events in mid-September to fall into Creative Cape Town Week. A formal Conference presents papers and seminars that face current universal and local topics, issues and discourses underlying the practice and consumption of the multifaceted medium. The project celebrates photography as a discipline of aesthetic, social, political and philosophical value. Both locals and internationals are invited to submit. MOP5, titled AUTOBIOGRAPHY: CHRONICLES OF OUR TIMES, in 2012, accepted and showed the work of over 25 international artists hailing from Africa, Europe and the United States of America. MOP6, titled Designing Destiny: Power within and outside the frame, showcased 120 artists.
