Bio
This site takes a more discursive and in-depth approach to reviewing theatre primarily in London.
Since 2014, I have written for The Reviews Hub as part of the London theatre critic team. The Reviews Hub was established in 2007 to review all forms of professional theatre nationwide including Fringe and West End.
I am a member of the Critics Circle and my background is in social and cultural history. My book, James Graham: State of the Nation Playwright, is available from Palgrave Macmillan, the first full-length assessment of the writer’s published plays from 2006-2023, evaluating Graham’s contribution to state-of-the-nation debates, Britain’s cycles of decline since the Second World War and their consequences for contemporary national identity. The book has been shortlisted for the Society for Theatre Research Book Prize 2025. Previous publications included Air and Sea Power in World War One which examines the experience of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Navy.
