Bio
Mairead lived and worked as a nurse in Iraq in the late 1980's and revisited Baghdad in 2004 when she stayed with an Iraqi woman and her grand-daughter and witnessed firsthand the devastation wrecked on a country and its people. She has travelled extensively throughout the Middle East; Syria, Oman, Yemen, Jordan and has also visited Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. She studies psychology at UCD and qualified as a CBT Psychotherapist in 1990. In she completed an M.A. in History of Art & Archaeology of the Middle East at the School of Oriental & African Studies, London in 2007 and wrote her M.A Dissertation on the Architectural Decorative Programme at Husn al Urr in the Hadramaut Valley of Yemen which included a trapezoidal capital depicting scenes of the pre-Islamic ritual hunt, and a peopled scroll with Graeco-Roman influences.
