Bio
Naomi L. Baum, Ph.D., is a psychologist specializing in trauma and resilience. She directed the Resilience Unit at the Israel Center form the Treatment of Psychotrauma, Jerusalem, from 2002-2014. Currently she consults and works internationally and in Israel creating and implementing innovative programs to build resilience and recover from trauma for populations exposed to both manmade and natural disasters. Her Building Resilience Intervention (BRI) has been used with educational systems, first responders, including police, firefighters and paramedics, as well as nurses, doctors, clergy and more. Naomi has brought this work to diverse cultures and communities both within Israel and internationally, most recently in Nepal. Previous to her work at the ICTP, she was a consulting psychologist for schools, directed a school psychology unit for a municipality and taught psychology at several colleges and universities in Israel and the USA. She received her B.A. from Bar Ilan University in psychology , and her M.A. & Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr College in school psychology, education and child development. She likes to spend her spare time scuba diving and hiking with her husband, children and grandchildren. She is the author of several books including her most recent book, "My Year of Kaddish: Mourning, Memory and Meaning," and the book "Life Unexpected: A Trauma Psychologist Journeys through Breast Cancer."
