Bio
I teach 7th-9th grade middle school students to think creatively, learn empathy, and gain communication skills. I teach THEATRE! I believe that every student should take a theatre class. Not because everyone should become an actor. There are SO many more things to theatre than acting. Theatre allows students to use every subject they are learning right NOW. Why should I study math? So you can build a set. Why do I have to learn to write? So you can put all the emotions of a playwright on stage? Why is history so boring? Because you haven't been taught that it's a fantastic story that happens to be true, not just a bunch of names and dates. Theatre brings life and immediacy to every other subject. Most importantly, however, is the "soft skills" that students learn that every employer will look for in these soon to be working citizens. Gaining attributes like Creativity, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills, Adaptability, Problem-Solving, Perseverance, Resourcefulness, and Effective Communication Skills are just a part of what my students learn in Theatre while they are having FUN!
