Bio
I've been an organizer and freelance writer exposing the systemic roots of social inequality, especially the brutality inflicted on persons experiencing homelessness by means of laws criminalizing their existence since 2008. While seeking change at the local, state and national levels via progressive legislation, legal remedies and creative resistance, I believe that only through a reorganization of society, brought about by unified mass struggle, will we be able to guarantee every citizen the humane existence which we all deserve.
I work locally in Broward County and throughout south Florida as founder of The October 22nd Alliance to End Homelessness and in 2022 also initiated the South Florida Street Outreach Survey (SOS) project to document police harassment and rights violations against houseless people by police. Over this past year I've also begun a project in alliance with current and former residents of Broward homeless shelters to hold their operators and Broward government accountable for a wide range of abuses in the shelters: Shelter Accountability (SHACC) Project Broward. I also ally with national and regional legal and advocacy org's including the Florida Justice Institute, the National Homelessness Law Center, and Western Regional Advocacy Project.
I support all struggle for the empowerment and liberation of historically dominated people, from Black and Native Americans in the US, to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, to women and LGBT people the world over, and wherever the crushing machinery of capitalism and imperialism produces its endless supply of human misery. In this light, I see homelessness not just as a material reality specific to unhoused people in the US and other western nations, but as an emblem of the dispossession of entire cultures historically victimized by colonization and imperialism.
