Bio
My name is Miguel Angel Oquendo (pronounced: Oken-doh). I have taken to introduce myself in the last 11 years by my original birth name. Before that folks would call me Mickey, Mike, Mikey, and Michael. In respect for my origins I took up doing that. A kind of acceptance.
Folks who don't know me usually proceed by the package (representation). IE They size me up as unapproachable, distant, intimidating.
One of my would be future partners said this of me, describing the moment I entered a room in a telemarketing class; "I said to myself, 'This guy's got a bomb in his pocket'."
When I first talk, they think I'm a sweetheart. The ignorant evil doers mistake this for weakness.
I have been in America since 1956. I have had people who have been here all their lives, say that I know more words than they do, of course this needs to be put into perspective (such a compliment). I know peanuts about Grammar. I just have a feel for writing, not technical.
I did not have a need for talking much as a child. I was a difficult delivery; sideways, and with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck.
I developed severe Asthma by the age of 12. I think, that due to my lack of words (speech) it was that I drew, and developed a great love for art. As I grew I became aware of a frustration with speech. Even a reticence. I developed a hunger for reading.
I've read many books. Before my accumulate years of reading I was quick to use my hands fighting. As my self knowledge accrued, I became less quick to use my hands. I was a President of a street gang in the Bronx NYC by the age of 16.
You can read about those years in "And Now Miguel" (1 through 8) posts.
Why do I blog? Outstandingly to develop the art of expression with words.
I came to know Christ at the age of 25, I was married at the time. My life found a new frontier. I underwent a great deal of trials.
The ones I loved suffered along with me.
About Christianity; be careful in assessing me, for you will find in my writings that I have discarded a great deal of the accoutrements I acquired from my indoctrinations by the Christian communities. The outcome is that you will discover a overwhelming unique view point of Faith and the message which the Gospel conveys.
God has taught me a new language to communicate the Gospel with. A more realistic and approachable perspective.
Philosophical and Psychological.
The rest is up to you. I don't expect a big following. That is not up to me.
I expect to become a better writer, not grammatically, but a story teller with more poignancy and significance.
Thank you for joining me in this introduction.
Sincerely; MAO
