Bio
I am a certified teacher in the US and my background is primarily math and science; however, my educational experience is heavily related to curriculum and instruction as is my experiences in classrooms.
My PhD was originally focused on curriculum and instruction, so I have several resources and information pertaining to various design techniques as well as practical experience in implementing and design curricula. In addition to performing the basic duties of a teacher in the classroom, I have designed several curricula in my time in the classroom. I was responsible for designing and implementing a new STEM program as well as designing 9th grade Algebra 1 curricula. I have also served as 10th grade lead at an international school, responsible for the design and implementation of chemistry curricula, including laboratories, exams, and content using a backwards design approach. My passion in education lies in creating materials for students to use that are both educational and engaging and it is something that colleagues and supervisors have praised me for.
After 2 years in my PhD program on curriculum and instruction, I transferred to special education and at-risk Populations. I used to work in a Title 1 District with a heavy percentage of at-risk students and wanted more experience and resources to help serve those students. I have 3 years of experience working in Title 1 Districts and 3 years experience working with transient military families, making me a versatile and adaptable teacher as I had to meet my students where they were, not where they should be. I excel at breaking down difficult and complicated concepts for students, making them more accessible and easy to understand. This is in large part because in school, I also struggled with these concepts, so I can empathize wholeheartedly with them when they struggle and am able to offer support and encouragement from a personal point of view.
I am currently pursuing a MEd in Educational Technology and Digital Learning because of my interest in the ever evolving world of technology and how it is integrated with education, I was considered a technology specialist at my previous school in the US, I am a level 1 Google certified teacher, and I am always looking for ways to integrate technology into the classroom. I have also introduced and trained teachers in Classcraft, a gamified learning platform, with large success. I am energetic, self-motivated, and always seeking to improve myself and my classes to make the best learning environment for my students. I am also adept at learning and using new LMS and other programs as they become available. I enjoy discovering new ways to teach students and would like to help pass that passion on to other teachers.
