Bio
For the past thirty years I have practiced Buddhist meditation in the Zen and Vipassana traditions. In November, 2002 I received the jukai precepts in the Hakuin-Soen lineage of Rinzai Zen at Dai Bosatsu Zendo. I now lead the Falling Leaf Sangha, a Rinzai Zen practice group in Alfred, New York.
Until my retirement in 2006, I taught literature, writing, classical guitar, and Buddhist meditation at Alfred University in Alfred, New York. I continue to lead the Falling Leaf Sangha, a Zen sitting group for the students and the community.
I am the author of ten books, most recently Firewood and Ashes: New and Selected Poems (2015), The Backward Step: Essays on Zen Practice (2014), Entering Zen (2011), Leaf, Sunlight, Asphalt (2009) and Dark Pool (2004). For further information, please visit www.howardbw.wordpress.com.
