Bio
I am a self trained artist and photographer living and working on the east coast. With a passion for art since childhood it wasn’t until finishing a long career as an infant child mental health specialist and professor that I entered the art world. Several years ago I discovered the excitement and beauty of painting with alcohol inks on different substrates, in particular yupo a synthetic paper. Being told by many that this ink was not applicable for painting caused me to dig in deeper and push the limits of this medium. Using a variety of techniques to apply the ink, I began to paint large vibrantly colored whimsical flowers that seem to dance on the paper and soon became known to many as the "painter of shaggy flowers”.
Out of this passion for creating these large colorful works highlighting the fluidity of movement of the ink the “Shaggy Flower Series” was born. The great success of the first series led to further experimentation with mixture and application techniques and currently a new series of Flowers is underway as well as series of sea creatures and birds of flight. For these series, resin is being incorporated in-between layers of ink creating the illusion of great depth in between layers and highlights the intricate designs created by air blowing some of ink applications.
When not painting large flowers or creatures, I can often be found photographing the world around me, creating whimsical jewelry pieces, or relaxing with my husband, daughters, and our friends.
