Bio
As the Times of India representative in Gandhinagar, Gujarat’s capital, I covered state government from October 1997 to January 2013. Last worked as the paper's political editor, I believe in what George Orwell said, "Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed: everything else is public relations." Before I joined the Times of India in 1993, I was in Moscow, covering Gorbachev's rise and fall between 1986 and 1993 for Patriot, a semi-Left paper, and weekly Link. Active as journalist since 1979, currently I edit e-journal counterview.org, a voluntary interactive platform owned by a group of NGOs, and www.counterview.net, a voluntary portal promoting alternative news. Though ideologies have fascinated me, I feel in the changed scenario, they are losing ground. One can ask: And what's taking the space? My answer: I'm a newsman. How do I know?
