Bio
Ramona Jennex, first elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature for Kings South in 2009 was born in Halifax, grew up in Chester and Dartmouth, and has resided in the Annapolis Valley for 36 years.
Ramona arrived in Wolfville in the fall of 1973 to pursue a degree in Music Education. Along with one year of study at the Baptist Leadership Training School, Calgary, she continued studying at Acadia, receiving a B.A. and a B.Ed. (Special Education). She then completed a M. Ed. at Acadia and another M.Ed. at Mount St. Vincent in 2000.
In her community, Ramona has been active and involved with numerous community organizations. These activities include Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Ecumenical Camps, Home and School, Annapolis Valley Honour Choir, Sunday School music director, folk dance instructor, and as an environmental presenter for School Camps.
Ramona's educational work has included Women in Education, Equity Committee, Heritage Fair, Public Relations and as NSTU representative. She was a part of Thomson Nelson Review Team for bias review, has presented at Summer Institutes for the Department of Education and Hypatia and has presented at the Conference on Child Poverty, Women in Education, Equity (NSTU) and the Conference of Atlantic Educators. She is a member of Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada.
Ramona was a member of the Race Relations, Cross Cultural Understanding and Human Rights (RCH) Lead Team at the AVRSB from its inception in 1997 until her election to the legislature in 2009. Ramona has been locally and provincially involved in designing and providing in-service training and facilitation on issues related to equity, language, critical literacy, pop culture, ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, poverty, philosophy, and media and science.
She is the mother of four children and is the proud grandmother of a 3-year old grandson.
