Bio
I am husband, father and son, Psychologist, community volunteer, pianist, and 4th degree aikido martial artist. I am dedicated to excellence in each of these roles, to learning, and to helping others discover their own, sustained pursuit of excellence.
Through the development of honest, trusting, and accountable relationships we can be both high performing and healthy in our many personal and public roles. Through life experience, clinical training, formal, professional growth experiences and through the challenges of learning to be a husband parent, and son, of playing the piano and of pursuing the martial art of Aikido, I have worked to perfect what for me are the fundamental intellectual, emotional, and physical qualities of balance, grace, and flexibility.
I work to find perseverance in the face of adversity and conflict; poise in the face of anger and violence; intelligence and reason in the face of irrationality; empathy and love when faced with the suffering of others; and honesty and self-assessment in the face of my own shortcomings.
Professionally I work with individuals, groups, and organizations to understand that excellence is a journey along a continuum stated simply in Japanese as “shu-ha-ri.” This continuum flows from beginner (shu) to journeyman (ha) to master (ri) and is not often appreciated in Western professional development that expects either success without work or success without the domain-specific foundations of learning and experience necessary for true excellence to develop.
