Hello and Welcome.
This blog has been created out of my passion for infant and childhood nutrition.
As a mother and Primary Care Nurse Practitioner I am often shocked and disappointed with the status quo regarding childhood nutrition... Have you looked at a kids menu???
Due to the fact that feeding kids is highly process junk food is so culturally engrained in Western society professionally it is an uphill battle. In a brief clinic visit it is impossible to overcome all of the unfortunate unhealthy eating habits our society has accepted for children.
Personally, it's hard for me to not routinley freak out when junk is promoted or offered to kids.
Recently, I started looking into daycares/dayhomes for my daughter. She is 11months old today. Durning the dayhome interview, I asked about what kind of food is prepared for lunch. The sweet lady told me she would prepare soft chicken and rice for the baby, but the other kids (and therefore when she is older) are provided "hotdogs, pita pockets... the usual type thing."
I almost left right then and their....
But she was sweet and I assume, a victim of our cultural bias...
Really the most disturbing part of that sentence is by far that fact that hotdogs are considered a USUAL kids food.
We are kidding ourselves if we think feeding our precious children highly process, low nutrient food doesn't have an effect on their future.
Therefore this blog is a place where I will review nutritional advice as well as chronicle our own personal journey with healthy eating practices for baby, as well as, the whole family.
My hope is this blog will keep my passion alive and If this blog inspires just one person to put down that highly processed "kids food" then I will consider it a job well done.
Cheers-Angela
