Bio
Father Michael Theogene. I am an ordained priest/ minister in the Catholic Apostolic Church in North America (CACINA) faith tradition. I serve as the Pastor of St. Benedict Mission (an all-inclusive faith community.) CACINA.org / saintben.net
I am also a retired detective in the New York City Police Department where my last assignment was in the Employee Assistance Unit (formerly known as the Early Intervention Unit) as a Peer Support Counselor. In this unit my responsibilities included providing peer support to members of the department who may be stressed by trauma utilizing crisis intervention techniques and psychological first aid. Additional duties included responding to critical incidents and conducting debriefing to those members and others who may be directly or indirectly affected by the traumatic experience. In this unit my partners and I conducted workshops in economic and relationship building. In this unit I also worked closely with the Department Psychologists and Department Chaplains. My experiences within the NYPD have included assignments in the Internal Affairs Bureau as an Internal Investigator and patrol as a uniformed beat Police Officer. For nine years I served as the citywide Clergy Liaison for the entire city of New York. I was assigned to the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau special projects / religious outreach unit at NYPD Police Headquarters to represent the department in meeting with all religious leaders of various faith traditions throughout the city on behalf of the Police Department. During this time, the department added citywide liaisons to conduct outreach to the Buddhist, Jewish, and Muslim communities. Additional projects included conducting religious conferences from various faith traditions for the Police Commissioner and the Chief of Community Affairs. During this time, I also served as the program coordinator for the NYPD Clergy Liaison Program. A program where well-known clerics and grassroots religious leaders work on a voluntary basis to serve as a link between the department and the various faith groups in their communities. I was promoted to Detective Specialist (3rd Grade) in 2005, promoted to Detective 2nd Grade in 2009, received the designation of Detective 2nd Grade / Investigator in 2011 and was nominated for promotion to Detective 1st Grade (the highest Detective rank in the NYPD) in 2017. I was with the NYPD for twenty years and retired at the end of my service with good standing. (NYPD equivalent to an honorable discharge) I retired December 8th 2017 at the rank of Detective 2nd Grade to pursue ministry full time.
