Bio
Roland Wood was my father. He was born on 22 December 1912 in Eastbourne. He moved to Southampton as a child and met my mother Dulcie Powell in Southampton. She worked at Shell Mex House in London and he worked for Heinz. They got married in 1938 and moved to Guernsey. Their son Michael was born in December 1939 and they managed to escape to Southampton in June 1940 the day before the Channel Islands were occupied by German forces. I do not know when he joined the British Army. He wouldn't have been "called up" for 2 years so it is possible he didn't join until 1942. I know that he was posted to Osset in Yorkshire at one time. He was posted to India in 1945 and this blog is his diary of the journey and his time in India.
