Bio
I am loving retirement, I love to write and have been writing a journal and my memories since 2012. I worked for nearly 30 years in educational publishing; our company strap line was 'Always learning'. I strive to do this every day; I love reading others journeys, particularly to do with pilgrimage.
I see myself as a permanent pilgrim. My husband, Gordon and I are practising Christians and have been regular church goers all of our lives. Gordon is a lay reader in the church of England. As a Christian, I have played the part of Martha for so many years, always doing and holding lots of roles within church life. Now I'm enjoying being more Mary, sitting quietly and listening and taking the time to read, write and reflect much more often. I love nothing more to sit on a bench when out and about and wait and see if someone comes and sits and talks to me. I think of these moments as heaven sent. Having said that hospitality is important to me and I love to have folk drop by for a chat, my door is always open.
Silence, nature and simply finding time to be still and to pray in the presence of God is important to me on a daily basis. Recently I have joined the Community of Aidan and Hilda based on Holy Island and I am finding the encouragement of those within the community, especially my soul friend, life enhancing.
I am delighted to have published my book in 2021, about our N Wales pilgrimage walk which we completed in 2016. Going forward we plan lots of pilgrimages, though these no longer involve lots of walking as my body has decided otherwise. However, researching, exploring and visiting many wondrous places around the British Isles brings great joy and I share many of these experiences on my blog.
In his book 'Pilgrimage' by Andrew Jones, Archdeacon of Meirionnydd he writes
'This is the difference between a pilgrim and a tourist: tourists pass through a particular place but for pilgrims, that place, as it were, passes through them.'
This resonates so clearly with me as did much of his book.. Time is such a precious gift.
Writing about the places we visit is mostly for my own enjoyment and for us both to be able to revisit our journeys years to come ( some way of I hope and pray) if we are no longer as able to get out and about.
If you've read this far, thank you. a little more detail below about what I've shared.
HEADERS IN CAPITALS OF WHATS AVAILABLE TO READ ABOUT FROM MY HOME PAGE.
I have loved writing my journey through life, with particular memories of my Christian journey from childhood. CHRISTIAN LIFE TILL 2019 and POST 2019 REFELCTING are the headings under which this writing is listed at the bottom of my home page.
I also belong to a writing group which is great fun. Each month somebody chooses a topic and we have to write a piece to share the following month. There is a WRITING GROUP TOPICS header where I share these. I also have tried my hand at METAPHORICAL WRITING and POETRY. I love this and hope to try more .
A header 'OUR PILGRIM JOURNEYS' is where I post about all the places we visit. I have also been fortunate to lead some quiet day retreats at St Chad's House in Leek, these are generally about the Celtic Saints which I love to learn about. You can find the heading SAINTS near the top of my home page. Under that are a few MEDITATION ideas based on bible passages. Some of these are included in my DAILY PRAYER BOOKLET I collated for my father in Law in 2021. Please feel free to download this if useful for you or for those you know, particularly those in hospital. If you have difficulty drop me a message and I'll happily and print and post to you for the cost of the postage. Lastly HOW TO ORDER MY BOOK, whish basically through me :)
