Bio
I took an early interest in learning about healthy foods because I suffered from food allergies beginning at the ripe old age of 9. My family physician suggested I keep a food journal to record what I ate in order to identify food triggers. Early on, I could find no distinguishable pattern.
Eventually, I realized that my allergies were triggered by preservatives and chemicals added to foods. The difference between eating a homemade chocolate chip cookie vs. a packaged chocolate chip cookie made all the difference. I wasn't allergic to chemicals in all packaged products, but I did learn that I could not consume many of the foods my friends enjoyed.
To this day, I do not eat packaged food laden with names I cannot prounounce and I avoid sulfites like the plague. Over the course of the years, I have become more interested in how and why our government approves the use of chemicals and preservatives in our foods. With GMOs taking center stage, I have become even more alarmed about the role government plays in the quality of the food we eat.
Cancer, heart disease, stroke, COPD, autistic spectrum disorders, and thyroid disease run rampant in the Western world along with a cornucopia of medical centers to treat these diseases. But wouldn't it be in our best interest to find the root of these illnesses before they take hold of our bodies? I don't need a doctor to tell me diet plays a role in chronic disease.
I hope, with the help of my readers, that we as a community can affect change in Washington to keep dangerous chemicals and preservatives out of our foods, eliminate GMOs, and restore the standards for organic foods.
Healthily Yours,
Sandy
