What is a Hometown Reboot? It might be moving to a new home in a new area of town. It might be creating a new home with new members of your family - the two-legged or four-legged kind It might be a simple adjustment to help yourself be more "you" in the home you've made. It might even be completely reinventing yourself, leaving a former life behind and following your heart to a completely different part of the world. The most important part of a reboot is the modification, the expansion of your comfort zone.
American patriot Nathan Hale said "My only regret is I have but one life to lose for my country." And then he was hanged for spying on British troops. I bet he would've preferred a life of checking out the rocky coast of Maine, the rolling farmland of Vermont, the many opportunities for fun and adventure in Ohio. Well my only regret is that I have only one life to cram all this living in to.
I have moved a total of 22 times. Sometimes across town, sometimes across the country, once I moved clear to Central America (It was Panama, but whenever I say Panama, a lot of people assume it was to the spring break hot spot Panama City, Florida). I've moved twice as an adult to cities I'd never been to before, not even to house hunt. But that's more than okay, discovering a new hometown is one of the greatest adventures one can have. In my humble opinion, of course!
This blog is all about new discoveries. A home isn't just the buildings and people around you, it's how you interact in that world.
My most recent move was to the Seattle area. Why? It's just always been a dream to live here and, when I found myself with two adult children and no obligations to keeping a kid in a school zone, I was free to follow that dream. So here I am exploring, expanding my comfort zone, reinventing.... rebooting!
Reboot part 1: Explore the many areas of this city and discover what makes them special. Hometowns all have different energies, different structures that create a different lifestyle for those living there. I'll do the research for you, report back, and maybe you'll get that spark to wonder what life could be like somewhere else! Oh, wouldn't that be exciting!
Reboot part 2: Stop and notice nature. Smelling roses isn't enough. Have you ever been driving down a street and get completely distracted by the color of the leaves? The shades of green in the trees? Stunned by the sudden appearance of Mt. Rainier along your commute? If not, try it sometime! I'll share my finds along hiking trails, rivers, even the essential oils and other products to help keep my life - and yours - as chemical-free as can be. I'm not talking about being completely organic, no chemical will touch my skin, but even the little things we do to appreciate and incorporate nature can have great effects on our lives.
Reboot part 3: One of the newest things I've done in my new home is committed myself to helping others find their new home. I am a licensed Realtor and one of things I appreciate most about the neighborhoods here in the Seattle area is the uniqueness of the homes here. Most of the places I've lived (most recently Florida and Texas) the houses are so uniform and common, there's just nothing to get excited about. But here, the styles, the features, there are so many options! Skylights, wood stoves, view of the forests, the mountains, the waters....EEEE!!! How people aren't constantly moving just to try something new, wow, I just don't understand. So I'll be showing you some of my favorite listings so hopefully you'll find one that just screams at you to UPGRADE! Kids out of the house? DOWNGRADE! Quick, before they move back in!
Which kind of reboot will you try first?
