Bio
In my own words:
I am most productive and happiest when I am creating something new in an unstructured, complex commercial context, or finding structure in chaos.
As an engineer, I define problems with all their variables, identifying their complex dependencies and interactions. But as a pragmatic strategist, I identify and act upon the most significant ones. And I know eventually it is all about people...
My preference is strongly for technology-oriented businesses in early development. My specialities are:
* Strategy in regulated environments
* Nuts and bolts of creating new business: business planning, raising investment, early business development
* Mentoring: how to be seen as a leader; how to choose, develop and manage teams; how to establish strategic priorities
* Cutting-edge concepts, commercial pragmatism, hands-on approach
Borrowing other people's far more lyrical words to sum up some things about me:
“When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes.” - Desiderius Erasmus
"In nature, there are now rewards or punishments; there are consequences." - Robert Ingersoll
Planning is everything. Plans are nothing. - Field Marshal Helmuth Graf von Moltke (1800-1891)
"There is always a well-known solution to every human problem - neat, plausible, and wrong." - HL Mencken
"Eclectic liberals usually are able to see merit in the different arguments on all sides of a debate.." - D Golding in 'Social Theories of Risk'
