Bio
Emily Leatha Everson was born in Germany, grew up a Hoosier, became a New Yorker, married a soldier, started a family in DC, and now calls Arlington home. She went to Indiana University and spent most of her time in the Theatre and Drama department. She studied at HB Studio in NYC, performing in her first cabaret under the direction of Charles Nelson Reilly and Donna McKechnie, and acted in Elizabeth Dillon's master class. She attended the 2003 Cabaret Conference at Yale University. Emily has performed in many venues around DC, including Signature Theatre, Warehouse Theatre, Kennedy Center, and Arts Club of Washington. Emily’s one woman shows include “Let Me Tell You” (Parts I and II), “Domestic Disturbances,” “It’s a Jungle Out There,” and “Oh What a Beautiful Day.” Emily, proud mom of two, has created a SING BOOKS WITH EMILY in which she sings picture books made from the texts of songs.
Emily Leatha Everson SINGS picture books made from your favorite songs (or songs sure to become favorites) in a program of surprising artistic and musical variety. The joys of illustration, reading, and singing are sure to delight children and adults of any age.
The mission of SING BOOKS WITH EMILY is to share the simple pleasure of singing a song and telling a story, combining the magical wonders of music, text and illustration in picture song books. In achieving this mission, SING BOOKS WITH EMILY supports the arts and emergent literacy; inspires imagination and love for words, stories and music; and secures the blessings of these words, stories and music for generations to come.
In addition, SING BOOKS WITH EMILY compiles and updates a comprehensive bibliography of illustrated books, poems and stories that can be sung; actively seeks the illustration of suitable songs; promotes the “musicalization” of appropriate stories and poems; writes songs and documents all of it in the SING BOOKS WITH EMILY blog on Wordpress.
